Cleaning and care of Principal Collection Floors

The natural character and warmth of the wood are particularly effective on floors treated with OLI-NATURA oils & waxes. They bring a charming look and feel on the wood and score at the same time with high resistance. The surface is reliably protected against penetrating moisture and dirt. In addition, the wood remains breathable, which positively influences the indoor climate.

To ensure that your floor stays beautiful for a long time and that you enjoy your floor for many years, it must be maintained and cleaned regularly and above all, properly. A coordinated care concept ensures a long service life and sustainability of the surface. Please follow these instructions. Your floor will thank you and develop an ever more beautiful and natural patina over time.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Depending on the floor’s exposure to wear, the impregnating coat naturally wears out after a certain time. Therefore, regular care is necessary. Wood is a natural product. It permanently changes its volume and adjusts to the room’s humidity. During the heating period, the relative humidity decreases significantly. The wood reacts to this situation by emitting its own moisture so that it starts to contract. This process is visually recognizable by gap formation in the parquet floor. At the end of summer, they are generally a lot smaller or closed again. In order to do something against gap forming, you may, for instance, hang humidifiers to your radiators and/ or have an adequate number of plants in your house.

  • The inside climate must be obeyed: a room temperature of 20-22°C and a relative humidity of 40-60%.
  • Leave your freshly impregnated floor at least 2-3 days until you expose it to its normal wear or start cleaning it.
  • It is forbidden to wash the floor with water for 10 days after „first care oiling” or refreshing oiling (which has become necessary over the years), only dry cleaning is possible!
  • Make sure that no excessive water remains on the floor.
  •  Do not use steel wool or sharp cleaning pads. Avoid oiling pads with too strong polishing effect.
  • Dirt and sand can be like sandpaper on your floor and have to be removed immediately. Vacuum the floor when necessary.
  • For cleaning and care you should only use high-quality products that are compatible with each other.
  • By placing a door mat in front of the entrance, you can achieve an effective reduction of dirt on your floors.
  • In order to avoid scratches, you may put pieces of felt under your seating furniture. If      you have furniture with rollers, the floor should be protected with mats.

Do not use grease-solvent detergents. Do not use universal, sanitary, glass or intensive detergents!

DRY CLEANING OF WOODEN FLOORINGS

Daily cleaning of oiled / hard wax oil-treated floors should be carried out dry with a broom or vacuum cleaner. Dirt and sand can be like sandpaper on your floor and can cause fine scratches on it.

WET CLEANING OF WOODEN FLOORINGS

For regular cleaning, wipe your floor with „OLI-NATURA Wood Soap”. Wood soap quickly and effectively removes grease stains without fading the colour of the wood floor. We recommend washing the average soiled floor of the apartment at least once a month with OLI-NATURA Wood Soap. It is recommended to wipe frequently used, especially heavily used surfaces at least once a week.

Wet cleaning with OLI-NATURA wood soap

OLI-NATURA Wood Soap is a soap-based concentrate for the regular wiping of all oiled and hard wax treated wood floors. The gentle wood soap ensures for a quick and cleaning and refatting of the floor. Simply add wood soap into the water, wipe the surface and let it dry - done. In case of stubborn dirt, the stain itself should be treated and then washed with water.

Step by step:

  • Remove coarse dirt by sweeping or vacuuming.
  • Shake well before use.
  • Simply add about 3 bottlecaps of wood soap to 5 litres of warm water or about 6 bottlecaps of wood soap to 10 litres of warm water.
  • Dip the mop into the soap solution and wipe the surface damp. Allow the solution to work for a few seconds so that it loosens the dirt, then use a clean mop to remove the dirty water from the floor. Always rinse the used mop or cleaning cloth thoroughly in clean water after use.
(Recommendation: Work with two buckets – one for washing and one for rinsing.)

Note: Ensure that no puddles remain on the surface after cleaning. Conventional household cleaners should never be used, as they can dry out the wood and damage the protective finish.

PERIODIC CARE AND REFRESHING OF WOODEN FLOORS

The refreshing treatment should be carried out exclusively by a professional parquet installer.

From time to time the oiled or waxed wood should be given some restorative treatment and maintenance. This will renew the protective effect and buff out slight scratches.

For the care and refreshment of oiled wood, „OLI-NATURA Wood Care Oil” should be used. The maintenance should be carried out at regular intervals, depending on the wear and tear of the floor, but in general, once a year.

For the exact type of care oil required for your floor, contact your dealer of Edelholz Kft.

INITIAL CARE AND PERIODIC REFRESHING AND CARE OILING

OLI-NATURA WOOD CARE OIL (Care oil for oiled wooden floors)

A natural care oil based on linseed oil, suitable for refreshing all porous, oiled wood, parquet, and cork floors. To keep oiled parquet or cork floors looking naturally fresh and beautiful, regular and as-needed maintenance of the oiled surface is essential.

OLI-NATURA Wood Care Oil combines regenerative and protective properties, removes light surface imperfections, and restores depth and brilliance to the floor.

Factory-oiled parquet is well-protected against moisture at the edges and joints due to the initial oiling; a subsequent care treatment further enhances the surface’s moisture resistance (a test application is recommended).

The refresh treatment can be applied over the entire surface or partially.

Step by step:

  • Prior to any care, a prior dry cleaning and wet cleaning with OLI-NATURA wood soap is recommended. Let the floor completely dry.
  • Shake container well before use.
  • Apply approx. 10 g/sqm of Wood Care Oil thinly and evenly. After approx. 10 minutes polish it in by hand with a white pad or a polishing machine. Remove excess oil with a dry cotton cloth.
  • Allow the surface to dry for at least 12 hours. Do not wet mop the surface for 10 days after oiling, only dry cleaning can be performed!

Note: Cloths, pads or wood dust soaked with oil can spontaneously ignite due to heat build-up, therefore please clean immediately after use or store under water.
