Proper Cleaning of Oak Wood Floors – with Video Guide!

The natural beauty of real wood not only enhances the atmosphere of our homes but also offers a long-term, value-preserving solution. Our company’s mission is not only to manufacture high-quality wide plank floors and herringbone parquet for our customers and partners, but also to support them throughout the “life after purchase” of our products — for example, with proper care and cleaning.

During production, we always use natural materials. This allows us not only to avoid the rigid, artificial effect typical of ship decking and engineered floors coated with synthetic lacquers, but also to protect our health: our products do not emit substances harmful to the human body.

In the case of our Principal collection, the top layer of the floor is treated with natural vegetable oils, while in our Alpenpass collection we use natural hardwax oil. The products of our EDELSTEIN collection are treated with a unique, custom-formulated oil-wax blend that also contains mineral particles. Each of these treatments creates an exceptionally durable surface: the parquet resists dirt, withstands everyday use very well, and remains beautiful for years. This is why EDELHOLZ hardwood floors can even be confidently chosen for kitchens!

How to Keep Your Oak Floor Clean

The good news is that cleaning an oak floor does not require complicated or expensive procedures. Thanks to natural oiling and hardwax oil treatment, the surface repels dirt exceptionally well.

1. Dry Cleaning – with a Vacuum Cleaner or a Broom

In most cases, it is perfectly sufficient to vacuum the floor or clean it with a soft-bristle broom.
This way, daily dust, crumbs, and minor debris can be gently removed without scratching the surface. This is especially important for premium wooden floors, wide plank floors, and herringbone parquet.

2. Damp Cleaning

Oak flooring is a resistant and stable surface, so damp cleaning is only needed occasionally. When the time does come (for example, in the kitchen), it is important to use the correct method and procedure.

Why Is It Important to Use the Right Cleaning Product?

Floors treated with natural oil or hardwax oil react differently from lacquered surfaces.
Using an unsuitable cleaning product may:

• dry out the surface,
• reduce the effectiveness of the protective layer,
• cause staining,
• lead to discoloration of the floor over time.

That is why we always recommend using only the wood care products specifically matched to the surface treatment and approved by us.
