While planning your future home it is worth putting great emphasis on the floor covering. Along with the walls, this is the largest surface in the house, so it is important to find the perfect, aesthetically pleasing flooring of satisfying quality. But what should you pay attention to? Tiles, laminate or natural wood flooring? Straight planks, herringbone or something else? More and more questions come up, but first and foremost you must be aware of your own habits and needs. If you like walking around barefoot/in socks at home, if small children fill the house or you tend to use the flooring instead of chairs during house parties, then the wood flooring provides an ideal solution for you and your family.

Can natural wood flooring be installed on underfloor heating? This is one of the most frequently asked questions of interior design blogs. Our answer is: yes, on condition that all regulations are followed. Wood parquet is made of living material, which means that the temperature and the air humidity influence its lifespan and quality. It is important to know, that the successful installation of wood flooring on underfloor heating depends on many factors that must be carefully checked from the start, from the preparation and the drying of the subfloor. All technical information on this topic can be found in our Installation guide. So that you can enjoy your quality floor covering for long decades, please follow the instructions. In everyday life only a few principal rules must be kept in mind. In winter, because of the heating the low air humidity can lead to gaps appearing between the blocks. Though this is a natural phenomenon, it can be easily avoided by bringing the air humidity level back to acceptable limit, between 40 and 60%. It is crucial that the temperature of the flooring surface never exceeds 25 C°. If you pay attention to these and keep to our guideline, we guarantee, that your natural wood flooring will appreciate it and will thank you with a long lifespan and a fascinating look.
The installation of the parquet requires craftsmanship, so a skilled professional is inevitable for an optimal result. The laying pattern of the herringbone/chevron is just one thing that must be implemented precisely, as the quality completion of the installation is just as valuable. It is important to choose a proficient expert with reliable references, who will execute the installation according to the instructions. But for us it is crucial that our clients also know the basics of this process and its possible pitfalls. Therefore, we recommend reading carefully our product description and documentation in every case.
In the era of modern floor coverings many people would like to omit the skirting, but in case of quality natural wood parquet it is not possible. Skirting is a technical necessity. Between the living wood flooring and the wall an expansion gap must be left, because the natural wood continues moving: it expands or shrinks, according to the room climate. The dilatation gap is thus inevitable, and the skirting’s role is to hide it. But the skirting has more advantages to offer. It is a useful help for cleaning: the skirting protects the wall from dirt. And we should not neglect its optical effect either. When the floor area is small, it can visually create a spacious look, because the skirting optically enlarges the flooring surface.
Parquet lacquer appears to be a simple and practical solution at first sight, but for EDELHOLZ high quality oakwood flooring it is out of question. We offer two kind of surface treatments, which both let the wood breathe and live. Oxidative oil penetrates deep into the wood, allowing an easy renovation if necessary. Wax stays on the surface and forms a strong, durable layer, making the everyday care and cleaning easier. Renovation is however more complicated in case of a waxed than an oiled surface. The appearance of a waxed flooring is more similar to the lacquered parquet, but it is more sophisticated. Our surface treatments take care not only of the flooring, but also of the environment. Natural oils and waxes have significantly less impact on the environment than solvent-containing lacquers and other products of this kind.
