The floor is the largest surface area in a home. If you choose it poorly, it can ruin the entire interior! Don’t make that mistake — join us, explore the world of wooden floors, make a conscious choice, and choose wisely!
In the EDELHOLZ range, you’ll find both straight plank flooring and herringbone parquet. In this blog post, we review the characteristics of large-format wooden parquet and herringbone parquet. You can find the technical data (exact dimensions, measurements, and certifications) HERE.

Herringbone parquet is an iconic flooring solution of historic architecture that has now returned to the forefront of interior design trends. It’s no coincidence: this pattern is elegant, dynamic, and spatially shaping at the same time.
EDELHOLZ large-format herringbone parquet differs significantly from the small-element versions of the past. Larger boards visually expand the space and give rooms a more generous appearance. This is why the pattern is especially popular in grand apartments, representative spaces, and modern minimalist interiors.

The most important difference between herringbone parquet types is the cutting angle.
Hungarian herringbone: board ends cut at 90°
French herringbone (chevron): ends cut at 45° or 60°

This difference may seem minor at first, but it significantly affects the final result:

Both types are suitable for modern and classic interiors alike — the choice is more a matter of design than technology.
One of the keys to premium parquet is construction. EDELHOLZ herringbone parquet is available in a layered oak–oak–oak structure, which is an ideal solution for underfloor heating.
The essence of the Triplex structure: three layers — all made of oak. Its advantages:
outstanding dimensional stability
stability during temperature fluctuations
long lifespan
natural material feel
Oak is also a hardwood, so with minimal care it retains its beauty for decades.
One of the fundamental principles of modern interior design is personalization. Large-format EDELHOLZ herringbone parquet excels in this as well: the wide selection of finishes (combinations of colours and surface textures) allows the floor to fully match the character of both the space and its owner.
The parquet is available in a wide range of shades, from light Scandinavian tones to deep, elegant dark hues. This diversity makes it possible for the floor not just to serve as a background, but to become one of the defining design elements of an interior. The visual effect is also strongly influenced by the wood grain pattern. In this respect, herringbone parquet is available in three selections:

An important distinction is that EDELHOLZ herringbone parquet is not strip parquet.
There are two main reasons:
It is not a small-element construction but a large-format modern design.
Its surface treatment is not created with artificial lacquer coating.
Surface protection is achieved using natural oils or wax-based treatments that penetrate deep into the wood pores, allowing the wood to “breathe” while remaining resistant to everyday use. Unlike strip parquet, wear paths do not appear on it under normal use.
Another advantage of natural treatment is that it is more environmentally friendly than traditional solvent-based lacquering. Moreover, it does not release harmful substances (VOCs).
One of the central directions of contemporary interior design is the return of natural materials. Real oak flooring is therefore much more sought after today than plastic or laminate alternatives.
The herringbone pattern fits especially well into current design directions:
modern minimalism → adds structure to clean spaces
classic interiors → creates a historical atmosphere
Scandinavian style → provides natural texture
loft & industrial styles → creates contrast
It’s no coincidence that this type is often chosen in heritage buildings, as it better matches the traditional character of the space.

One of the greatest advantages of quality parquet is durability. A well-maintained real wood floor is not only long-lasting but also adds value — it can even be a significant advantage when selling a property.
And if the surface wears over the years, parquet can be easily and quickly refinished, restoring it to an almost new condition.
